What are your best memories from IPC?
Going to Samsų gave you the feeling of the Denmark that I know. Visiting Samsų touched my heart on my trip to DK. On the bus I overheard Sally answer a question from one of the students about the unique (very large rocks) or boulders which she expressed were from the Stone Age. All of a sudden, it flashed in me-oh wow! its from my Viking Art and its Origins class from the University of Washington, in Seattle. I just was so impressed!! the dolmans and all the other funerary stones. They also kept their earthenware inside of these with the person that died.

I remember going to the small island of Fur with my mother and Great Aunt when I was 7 and my brother was 6. We went to our Moster's house-she never married and she was everyone's Moster. She was a first/second grade teacher out in this very quaint villages as in the old days. You could get a feeling of the "Real Old Danmark". Moster sang to us to go to sleep about the ocean and my mother would sing about a rose thorn in Danish -- her singing got us to sleep but I am not so sure about the Old Rose Thorn. My Moster had the whole area worshiping her. She was an institution, everyone and I mean everyone watched after her and she lived very old and did not go into a home. She had a gentleman friend she talked about so sweetly. We made a trip to Fur, all together and bought amber of course. I just love Amber!!! And Fur and Aasted are like Samsų. The real Danmark is there also!

I have been to Denmark 4 times, twice alone. Each time I stay at least one month and mainly 3-4 months. My mother always told me out of 4 kids I was the most "Danish". I am not afraid of any Danish food nor drink!! My mother came to the US from Aalborg when she was 25 years old. She went to a special school in Denmark and became a Hair Stylist. She worked in a beautiful department store like Nordstrom for about 3 years. She met my dad while sitting across the table from my dad at a Danish Banquet in Nebraska and then they were married. So really I am 95% Danish! When I spoke with my Dad on the phone in Danish, he reacted like I never think he would, and like he was crying, because he held his heart so close to DK.

When I came back to the Portland, Oregon area I assisted managing the Northwest Danish Foundation. I had an absolute wonderful view of Mount Hood. Now I am back at the Atlantic Ocean in Virginia Beach. My mother and I are close and once she said to me "that we came from the sea" isn't that true. She considers me like a real Dane :)) and best friend. I remember the time when I was in Aalborg with MorFar -- we said "mo fa"! when little. All I wanted was some fresh rolls, ost and spepulser for breakfast (of course we got it every morning) My aunt and uncle still live in the same building at Markesgade, my aunt has lived there all her life.

My Uncle whom lived in Copenhagen was absolutely talented. He was very special. He had a unbelievable sense of humor. He also was famous-He was the Medical Director of the Children's Hospital in Copenhagen, he discovered a technique with radio isotopes in diagnosing people in Endocrinology. His knowledge was/is known all over the world and he is an Honorary Member of the American Medical Association. You would not believe that he was holding such an important position in the medical field by the way he acted up in our 17 Century farmhouse in Sweden -- or up in the cabin in Norway! -- what a nut. He played whatever crazed Viking he could. I have a couple of cousins in Astronomy and Nuclear Physics. I have family all over Denmark but, perhaps Aalborg and Aasted were my favorites.

Who have you met up with since IPC?
Linda from Seattle, Washington

What was the greatest thing you learned at IPC?
Try to do more research before admission. Misinformed about IPC because I wanted intense Danish.

What message do you wish to give to everyone from your IPC term?
Hey, write me!
I am going to Italy soon and probably Denmark also.
